[ Iyagi Day ] Episode 10. Three Recommendation of Zombie-themed Korean Movies (English)

Horror and thriller movies are a great companion for you in Summer. Even though Summer was already over, but here’s my favorite horror K-movies about Zombies that you should watch too (if you haven’t watch it though)!

1.      Train To Busan

Some of you probably are getting bored with this kind of recommendation. But, Train to Busan is a must! Train to Busan told a story of Seok-Woo (Gong Yoo), a fund manager in Seoul who is separated from his wife and lives with his daughter Soo-An (Kim Soo-Ahn). Seok-Woo didn't spend much time with his daughter or show any affection for her. On the night before Soo-An's birthday, Soo-An insists on meeting her mother on her birthday. Seok-Woo had no other choice, but to take him to Busan. The next morning, they took the KTX train bound for Busan at Seoul Station.

Before the KTX train leaves Seoul Station, a zombie-like girl jumps into the train. The girl is infected with a terrible virus that spreads like wildfire. Seok-Woo, Soo-An, and the other passengers on the KTX train must now fight for their lives.

2.      Rampant

Lee Chung (Hyun-Bin) is the Prince of Joseon, but he was held hostage by the Qing Dynasty. He likes to drink, play girls and gamble. He is also a great swordsman. His older brother, Lee Young, who succeeded to the throne, brought Lee Chung to Joseon. Lee Chung is finally back after more than 10 years. Before long, Lee Chung learns that there are monsters that run rampant at night in the kingdom.

Sageuk version of Train to Busan?! Something like Netflix’s Kingdom? No, even though it’s a Zombie themed movie, it's not like ‘Train To Busan’ or ‘Kingdom’ series, though. This is pretty cool! The plot was actually well-built! Moreover, the final battle of Hyun-Bin and Jang Dong-Gun was epic!

3.      Alive

A city is infected by a mysterious virus, which causes the city to spiral out of control. Joon-Woo (Yoo Ah-In) and Yoo-Bin (Park Shin-Hye) struggle to survive in an apartment complex isolated from those infected with the virus. Everything including internet, telephone and electricity have been cut around the apartment. Will they be able to survive?

When I first watched this, I was a little hesitant, "Oh? This is similar to the webtoon titled Dead Days," i thought. To be honest, I really love the webtoon, so, to avoid any misunderstandings of plagiarsm, I immediately looked for details on this film, it turned out to be true that this is an adaptation of the ‘Dead Days’.

As a reader of the webtoon, this is not a perfect adaptation i supposed, because they changed many things. But, if you look at this film as a standalone film, I think the plot is decent. The zombies are also really really cool. It’s sooo thrilling!
