This time i'm gonna share some informations about the 43rd ASEAN Summit which held from 5 to 7 September 2023 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Last month, i actually made a content consisted of information about KONNECT ASEAN in Indonesian language. So, this time, it's in English. I got all information on this content from KONNECT ASEAN Official Website. Let's get to know what is KONNECT ASEAN and it's programs~
On 11th August, i visited a painting exhibition of an Indonesian well-known artist, Hendra Gunawan. It was actually an un-planned visit. I happened to have to join other events at Ciputra Artpreneur Theater where the exhibition held. The visit is my first time to see a local contemporary arts, and this is a nice experience for me.

Jika kalian ditanya, 'Seberapa besar Korean Wave melanda sekelilingmu?', apa jawaban kalian?
Buku Korea yang diterjemahkan biasanya adalah buku yang bergenre self-improvement, seperti buku I Want To Die But I Want To Eat Tteokbokki, dan sebagainya.
Horror and thriller movies are a great companion for you in Summer. Even though Summer was already over, but here’s my favorite horror K-movies about Zombies that you should watch too (if you haven’t watch it though)!

Hello! I'm back with a new article. And this time i want to talk about Youth Role on Enhancing Korea-ASEAN Relations in English! Well, for those who don't understand English yet, you could use the translate feature in this Blog. You can scroll to the bottom of the article and found the Google Translate feature and choose the language, then hwala! Nice!
This topic is kind of different compare to my other articles in this Blog, haha. But well, here you go.
Have you ever wonder of how to enhance relationship between Korea and ASEAN?
After some thinking, i think these three points i'd share are important.
1. The People or The Youths
I have a really short explainations about the first point. That we won't get any ideas without the people. How can you get any idea without the people or the youths, though? Even though it has a short explainations, this point is the most important thing of all.
But, what kind of people we need to giving ideas about enhancing Korea-ASEAN relations? They could be people who love and interest about Korea, they could be professor or analyzer or people who works for the certain divisions such as Economy, Social, Science, Technology, etc.
I think, the most important thing is the people's capability of discussion.
2. The Place and The Familiarity
We got the people! And what's next? I should say the place. I think, having a certain place or community to talk and share ideas is important. But, the familiarity of the community itself is also important, because sometimes i feel like those community is a private community that only some people could know about the community.
Here i share some communities i know that probably you can join.
a. Moija K-Friends: it's a K-community in facebook where you can share your knowledge or even ideas about Korea. You can learn many things from other members who also share their knowledge.b. Honorary Reporter: if you like to write articles about Korea, you should join this community. In this community, you can write about Korea as many as you can. You can also learn how to make a great articles with joining the gatherings they hold for each two-three months. Compared to Moija K-Friends, the Honorary Reporter have a smaller amount of members.c. Korea-ASEAN Online Supporters: this is a K-community where you can join if you're an ASEAN people. Here you can update more information about the relationship about Korea-ASEAN and also share contents you made with theme. This place is a home for those who wants to share ideas more privately because they have an even smaller amount of members than Honorary Reporter.
3. The Ideas
Well, people can share their ideas from any fields, such as economy, social, politic, entertainment, etc. It's kind of connected to their interest. As for me, i'm interested in Korea because of it's entertainment or creative industry. So, here's my ideas:
What Indonesia Can Learn From Korea
I'm learning Korean language at one of the Korean language classes in Jakarta. The teachers are native of South Korea. Even though I only met a few Korean people, however, I learned a lot from these people. And as many people already know, South Korea has excelled in its creative industry. Then, what can Indonesia learn from the achievements of the Ginseng Country?
Summarizing information from the internet, the Creative Industry, or also known as the Cultural Industry is an industry that utilizes the creativity and skills of an individual to create works which, according to Howkins, are works in the fields of advertising, architecture, art, fashion, film, music, performing arts, publishing, toys and games, television and radio, and so on.
Looking at several related fields, here are some things that I think Indonesian creative business might learn from South Korea.
1. Advertising
If you often watch Indonesian television, especially sinetron (soap operas), maybe you know how they broadcast advertisements in soap operas. The advertisements (usually food products) that are displayed tend to take advantage of dialogue which I think is less dense.
Compared to taking advertising scenes separately with actors who have nothing to do with the storyline, I think advertising for a product should be integrated into story scenes with informative but dense dialogue.
Then, there are also advertisements in the form of editing billboards in soap operas. I quite impressed the editor's ideas and intentions by turning the adverts into billboard edits. However, in my opinion, the placement of the ad must be adjusted to the atmosphere of the scene, and the location of the scene. If the scene is a street setting, a billboard is a good idea. However, if the scene is set in a park, and the scene is in a fight or problem, it might be a good idea to change the 'billboard' edit into another form, such as a smaller billboard such as a banner stand, and so on.
2. Music
In the eyes of the world, South Korea is very superior with K-Pop music. One of the BTS members, Suga, once explained in an interview that compared to seeing K-Pop as a genre, K-Pop is the result of the integration between the elements in it, namely music, dance, costumes, and so on.
Compared to South Korea, which excels in music in the group format, I think Indonesia can excel in the band or soloist format. Many Indonesian music has names abroad, such as Rich Brian, Stephani Poetri, Weird Genius, and others.
3. Movies
Last year, South Korea achieved many achievements with the film Parasite directed by Bong Joon-Ho. Last year also, the Indonesian director, Joko Anwar also won an achievement in the international arena with the film 'Impetigore'.
What was the difference between Bong Joon-Ho and Joko Anwar last year? Movie genre.
In my opinion, compared to East Asian horror films, I feel that Southeast Asia, especially Indonesia, can excel in the horror film genre. But that doesn't mean romantic film directors and others aren't excellent. The Indonesian super hero film, Gundala, has also received quite a bit of attention abroad. I hope the series can be continued because I think it is a work that has the potential to enter the international realm.
4. Television as a Means of Education
To learn from others, we must compare ourselves with that person, so that we know the differences we have and can take what's good of those differences to achieve the same end goal.
I never watched South Korean television in its entirety, and only watched certain programs, such as dramas, variety shows, and music shows. And while watching it, there are several things that I can learn, namely the culture and the system/production of the show.
South Korea is able to convey its culture in attractive packaging, both through dramas and various events. I hope that shows on Indonesian television can also convey culture, Indonesian culture that deserves to be displayed such as language, traditional clothes, food, musical instruments, and so on through a variety of programs.
Then, I actually rarely watch music shows in Indonesia, whether they still exist or not. I'm just following the talent show only. However, I think Indonesia is capable of creating a music program like South Korea, and of course, with a denser MC dialogue. The music event can be a place for Indonesian singers to introduce themselves to the public.
And, what I hope from Indonesian television, is that they can be more disciplined and manage the timing of their various shows, not just following the flow and viewership ratings.
In this case, I hope that television shows in Indonesia can show themselves more as a reliable means of education and information, and not just entertainment.
5. Attitude While Creating Contents
To create higher quality advertising, music, films, television shows, and other creative works, in my opinion, requires high discipline, consistency, and high exploration.
Some say that Youtube is more than your television. There are many content creators in Indonesia, and what makes them able to reach a large loyal audience is their discipline, consistency, and high spirit of exploration and creativity to create creative works.
Then, sometimes many people are so busy competing that they forget who they are. I hope that Indonesia can love itself more by being itself who has advantages in cultural heritage.
One of the things I've learned from the Koreans I meet is that they love their country. But that doesn't mean they hate other countries. They know their culture, they love themselves, so they dare to introduce it to the world.
I hope that the Indonesian people, including myself, can get to know Indonesia better, can love its strengths and always improve its weaknesses, so that they dare to introduce Indonesia to the world.
***
Well, I wrote this article based on my personal opinion, with the aim of evoking a sense that Indonesia can do better. Indonesia just needs more time than South Korea to package itself better.
At last, i also hope Korea and Indonesia can enhance their relationship and their cooperation in the field of entertainment or creative industry.
Pada Iyagi Day Episode 5, aku ingin mengabarkan bahwa sejak hari Rabu, 21 April 2021, aku secara resmi menjadi Korea-ASEAN Online Supporter 2021, setelah Opening Ceremony dilaksanakan.
